Real estate technology startup accelerator MetaProp NYC has launched MetaProp Advisors, a real estate technology consultancy. The new venture will offer a “supercharged” version of the firm’s successful accelerator program, providing carefully selected companies with high-level consultative and communications services. But according to Aaron Block, Managing Director of MetaProp NYC, that’s just the beginning. MetaProp Advisors also plans to provide advisory and consulting services to other major stakeholders in the REtech ecosystem, including corporations and investors.

Block, along with Clelia Peters and Zach Aarons, co-founded MetaProp NYC last year to provide growth services, mentoring, intensive courses and funding for seed and early-stage startups. The accelerator has attracted a lot of positive attention in the real estate and technology community, as evidenced by the large turn out at its first demo day events held recently in New York City and San Francisco.

Spearheading the new advisory service will be Philip Russo, a 16-year veteran of commercial real estate communications, who has joined MetaProp NYC as founding partner of MetaProp Advisors and chief communications strategist for all MetaProp NYC businesses.

Real estate communications veteran Philip Russo has joined MetaProp NYC to run its new consultancy, MetaProp Advisors.

“Consultative and communications services is a major underserved area in the emerging REtech space,” explained Block. “I’ve known Phil for many years from my time at Cushman & Wakefield. He has a passion for technology and it’s always great to be able to work with friends. His talents and experience will greatly accelerate the communications strategy and overall growth of MetaProp NYC, our portfolio companies and our advisory clients.”

Prior to joining MetaProp NYC, Russo was at CBRE Group in New York City, where he was the director of communications and marketing for the New York Tri-State Region. Prior to CBRE, he was with Cushman & Wakefield as senior managing director of media and corporate affairs. Russo is a graduate of Fordham University and is a longtime resident of Brooklyn.

“We see MetaProp Advisors becoming the premier consulting company on all kinds of levels for real estate tech startups, ” said Russo. “One of the great things about MetaProp NYC is that it’s able to analyze, fund and accelerate such a wide range of companies from residential to commercial. I feel totally unfettered in many ways, which is really fun after being in the corporate world for sixteen years.”

Rentalutions, the first company selected for MetaProp NYC’s accelerator program last year, has also signed on as MetaProp Advisors’ first client. Rentalutions’ online platform helps landlords find and screen tenants, create and sign leases and collect rent.

“Communicating our story to the world is critical to continuing the fast growth we’ve had,” said Ryan Coon, Rentalutions’ founder and CEO. “Given how important this communication is for us, it made sense to partner with the best, most connected people in the real estate world. Phil and the MetaProp NYC team’s track record in real estate and tech are second to none.”
